Mold In Attic

Don't become a victim of attic mold

Mold In AtticAttic mold can turn from a small problem into huge headache if it is left unchecked. This is why it is important to do all you can to stop it occurring in the first place, and if it does occur to deal with it swiftly. Proper attic ventilation is one way that you can stop mold in its tracks. There are also some other things you should consider if you want to deal effectively with this problem.

When looking at attic mold it is important to realize why it tends to end up in places like the attic in the first place. Well, this is because many attics provide the ideal habitat for mold. Many attics tend to be damp dark places where few of us ever visit. Lack of ventilation also means that mold is allowed to grow with nothing to prevent its spread. In order to tackle this problem it will be necessary to make the attic less hospitable for the growth of this fungus.

So how do you make things harder for the attic mold? Well the first thing will be to make sure you regularly ventilate the area; attic ventilation should be a priority. Make certain that there are no broken or leaking pipes up there that could be providing that needed moisture. It is also worth considering any moisture that could be ending up in the attic from the rest of the house because of condensation. If you have a ladder going up to the attic you might want to insulate this, and it is also a good idea to check and area where pipes are going from the rest of the house up to the attic. These can have gaps in that allow condensation to rise up to the attic.

One of the most important things that you need to do is to regularly check for attic mold. If it is allowed to get out of hand it could be the cause for members of your family getting sick or could even lead to huge costs to in building repair. If you keep mindful of the type of environment that mold likes then you can stay on top of things. Despite your best precautions and attempts at attic ventilation you might still have to deal with the problem; it is usually easy to solve if you get to it early enough. Just remember to protect yourself when going anywhere near mold with a respiratory mask and eye protection; especially if it is black mold.

I bought a house and discovered mold in attic a few days later. I'm a single mother.Who is responsible?
Homeowners will not cover the removal of the mold because it is not the result of a leak. I feel as though it was an ongoing problem before I moved in, and I shouldn't have to pay for it. I can't afford to with two small children. Should I hire a lawyer? Even then, I am not sure if I will recoop that money back. I had someone look at the attic and they said it is a big job, $10-20,000, maybe more. I'm in a bad situation. If you know any resources, please let me know. I need to work quickly so my children do not get sick. Thanks for any info.

black mold in attic?
My husband and I have a contract signed for an amazing home we love. During the inspection, it was discovered that there was black mold in the attic. The owner agreed to have it remediated, but I am still concerned. Does remediation, along with installing soffit vents, and having the bathroom vent go outside, fix the problem indefinately? Also, it says in the paper work that the company will encapsulate the mold. I have read that this is not really a good way. Any one have some experience or advise?
