Black Mold Poisoning In Your Home - Symptoms And Treatment
Black mold or toxic mold is a fungus which grows on moist or damp surfaces as a powdery or downy substance. In addition to humidity, it also requires moderate temperature and adequate amount of light to grow. In home, it targets the surfaces like walls, wood, carpets, and leather goods such as sofa, purses and clothes. Mold also loves to grow on all types of foods.
Black Mold brings many seen as well as unseen problems. The silent cause can be seen growing as yellowish stains on the walls, brownish patches on carpets, sofas and wood. It gives off musty odor due to the release of volatile organic compounds. These volatile organic compounds are responsible for poisoning in humans. On inhaling, the compounds irritate the mucous lining and create respiratory problems. Serious poisoning consequences include harmful effects on the nervous system.
Black mold poisoning is indicated by uneasiness in respiration, coughing and red eyes. Some people also show visible symptoms of skin allergy, such as rashes and hives on skin, itching and redness around the nose. The patient feels dizzy and lethargic. Once aggravated, the patients experience headache, bleeding from the lungs, asthma, urinary tract infection, and irregular blood pressure. The nervous signs include nausea and memory loss.
It is very important to control black mold before it creates serious problems. The first thing you have to do is to destroy its habitat. Moisture is its ultimate requirement. You may control the moisture by regularly monitoring relative humidity, and the sources that may increase humidity such as leaks and condensation problems. Bathrooms are the most vulnerable locations. You need to clean and dehumidify bathroom appliances like tiles and curtains. You may also place some dehydrators at the humid places.
At several places around the world where the environment is humid, you may fix purifiers in your home. These purifiers may help to decrease the air borne spore load inside the house.
If anyone of the symptoms has appeared, take it seriously. You need to have your blood test under the supervision of the doctor. The patient may adopt natural, as well as medicinal routes to treat the problem. You may take brown seaweed extract, plenty of water or other diuretics to flush the toxin out of your body. Otherwise, you may go for immunotherapy, where the doctor instigates immune resistance against allergens. Taking small preventive measures can help us improving our living environment.
